The position is within the thematic area of teaching, learning and study design in higher education, with a specific focus on the investigation of the master`s thesis as element of this design. The PhD position will contribute to a Nordic collaborative research initiative that investigates the complex knowledge processes linked to a series of different learning activities that students engage in regarding their master's thesis (e.g. response groups, project seminars, supervision, use of digital tools). The project employs sociocultural theories, which view learning and activity as closely intertwined with the environment in which one participates and the tools that are used. Relevant methodological approaches are observation, interviews, and text analyses. The PhD project is expected to focus mainly on design and guidance activities related to the master’s thesis designed and how these designs advocate students' learning, but also preparation for work life and participation in a democratic society. The group comprises researchers with different interdisciplinary backgrounds who conduct research in the areas of higher education, professional and workplace learning. It offers an internationally oriented and stimulating research environment, with a connection to research communities in workplace learning, teaching, and learning in higher education, learning sciences and educational technology and educational research worldwide. More about the positionThe fellowship period is up to 4 years, with 3 years devoted to research education. The positionentails a compulsory workload of 25%, that consists of teaching and supervision duties and researchassistance.The research fellow must take part in the faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. . Qualification requirementsApplicants must satisfy the requirements for admission to the faculty´s PhD programme. This normally includes:Applicants must hold a master’s degree in education or equivalent in field of relevance(e.g., educational psychology, social or behavioral sciences, communication studies, orother professional degrees with relevance for the area of research)A Master’s degree (120 ECTS) with a minimum grade B (ECTS grading scale) or equivalent.
